“한국어 이렇게 잘 할 줄 몰랐어요” These encouraging words were uttered by my new language partner ^^ Yes, I finally managed to find a new language partner through facebook and yesterday was our first time to meet. She’s a super sweet Korean girl from Sogang University doing a one-semester exchange at the uni where I work. On top of that, she has a very linguistic approach to teaching Korean. When I had a question about a certain ending, she quickly analyzed the whole sentence by splitting it into object, subject, etc. and explained the grammatical rule for the sentence structure. She said that she had taken Korean grammar and language at a high level in high school even though it’s her first language. Impressive!
To make things even better she brought another girl from Hong Kong who speaks Korean really well and studies to become an interpreter. This makes for a perfect study group, one teacher and two learners of which one of the learners (not me) can also act as a teacher. I’m super happy, and we had very good chemistry too. I realized how much I’d missed speaking Korean to other people (talking to your computer screen – or worse yet, yourself is far less satisfactory).
We decided to meet in the campus library for a couple of hours every Thursday afternoon (우리 목요일 도서관에서 같이 공부를 하기로 했어요) and decide on a discussion topic in advance. I can’t wait until next time. ^^
