Granted, there are many beautiful Korean words and finding one favorite is not easy. Nonetheless, sitting on the train on my way to the airport (yes, I’m flying to Seoul tomorrow – squeeee!) I started pondering on what was my favorite Korean word. I’ve been learning Korean for exactly two years now, and one word that seems the most defining to me is 인연 (inyeon – meaning a connection or tie to someone). The word is closely related to fate, the idea that people are destined to cross paths in a meaningful way. I’ve crossed paths with many lovely people in my learning process, and I hope that I will continue to do so. Even though we’re not even there yet, my husband and I already feel the Korean warmth greeting us in the distance. I cannot wait to embark on this adventure, and I’ll be sure to share it all with you!

My dearest 건하 ❤️ Happy first birthday in Heaven. Though I cannot celebrate this day with you like I used to, I feel so thankful for all the happy memories you and I have made together. No one has ever made me laugh in the same way you always did. Together we had so many inside jokes, and your unique sense of humor was one of the many qualities that made you my favorite person ever. We were such a great team and we both felt we could take on any challenge as long as we faced it together. And if there was one thing you and I did especially well, it was celebrating. We celebrated birthdays, the anniversary of our first meeting, Christmas, New Year, finished exams - we always found a reason to have fun together. You made sure that we took plenty of pictures and I can’t thank you enough for that. Looking through these pictures of happy memories together always makes me smile even when I’m feeling sad and missing you like crazy. Thank you so much for coming into my life and becoming my best friend and soulmate. You left this world much too early but you’ll stay in my heart forever, and I promise to never let you go. Instead I’ll carry you with me wherever my life leads me, and I’ll try to see the world through your eyes as well as my own. We had so many things we wanted to do together that never came to be. I’ll try to find a way to do these things and continue making lots of memories as you always encouraged me to do. Please stay with me forever, my beloved 건하. Our 인연 is eternal and I’ll love you always!❤️ Cheers to you! 🍻 #인연 #추억 #영원히사랑해 #memories #loveyoualways #wellseeeachotheragain
