After several movie adventures overseas (China) Song Seung Heon is once again returning to the small (Korean) screen as the fictional love interest of Korean icon Sin Saimdang portrayed by the beautiful Lee Young Ae.

For those of you unfamiliar with this Korean legend: here’s a brief intro kindly borrowed from this awesome site:

A few vocabulary words:

양반 nobleman

그 당시 at that time

시 poem

포도 grapes

솜씨 skills

현모양처 wise mother and good wife

Being a national icon, Sin Saimdang is also portrayed on the 50,000 Won bill

This certainly is a new look for Song Seung Heon. Not sure about the beard though.

Lee Young Ae in the title role
The beautiful Lee Young Ae in the title role as Sin Saimdang. A Korean friend of mine referred to her as a 동안 (童顔) meaning “baby face” since she looks ever young.

I must say I look forward to this drama. Usually I am not a big fan historical Korean dramas, as I find the language obsolete. However, with this pairing I have to watch it. I’m also quite fascinated by the story of such a strong and charismatic woman, and I’m confident that this drama will be a huge success. Several other Asian countries have already bought the rights to air it. I can see why!
