Granted, there are many beautiful Korean words and finding one favorite is not easy. Nonetheless, sitting on the train on my way to the airport (yes, I’m flying to Seoul tomorrow – squeeee!) I started pondering on what was my favorite Korean word. I’ve been learning Korean for exactly two years now, and one word that seems the most defining to me is 인연 (inyeon – meaning a connection or tie to someone). The word is closely related to fate, the idea that people are destined to cross paths in a meaningful way. I’ve crossed paths with many lovely people in my learning process, and I hope that I will continue to do so. Even though we’re not even there yet, my husband and I already feel the Korean warmth greeting us in the distance. I cannot wait to embark on this adventure, and I’ll be sure to share it all with you!

  1. Have a safe flight, Sofie. I hope you meet wonderful friends you haven’t met yet (aka strangers) in Seoul. You are at the frontier of a brave new world and I must admit I am a bit jealous. I hope that in the coming years I will follow in your footsteps and visit the country of my partner.

Don’t forget to show us all the delicious foods you encounter in Korea!
